Traffic warden resigns in Polis Chrysochous amid bullying allegations

A municipal traffic warden in Polis Chrysochous, Fanis Kokkinos, has resigned from his position effective October 13, 2026, following serious allegations of workplace bullying and unfair treatment. Kokkinos has publicly accused the Mayor of Polis Chrysochous, Yiotis Papachristofi, of creating a hostile environment, specifically citing an unauthorized wage deduction while he was on sick leave and an incident where he was allegedly insulted and expelled from a staff meeting.

Mayor Yiotis Papachristofi has rejected these claims, characterizing the situation as a 'problematic' case involving a difficult employee. According to the Mayor, the traffic warden frequently caused issues, failed to behave appropriately, and requested a three-year leave of absence to attend college, which the Municipal Council denied. The Mayor maintains that all actions taken by the municipality regarding the employee were based on formal decisions made by the Municipal Council.

The public confrontation has escalated following discussions on local media outlets. While the warden alleges personal targeting and harassment, the municipal administration asserts that the employee's performance and conduct have been consistently unsatisfactory throughout his tenure.
