Four police officers to stand trial for the murder of Kyriaki Griva

Four police officers are set to stand trial before the Mixed Jury Court of Athens for the felony of lethal exposure by omission following the murder of 28-year-old Kyriaki Griva. The incident occurred on April 1, 2024, outside the Agioi Anargyroi police station in Athens, where the victim was stabbed to death by her former partner after unsuccessfully seeking protection.

The Athens Council of Misdemeanors ruled that there is sufficient evidence to prosecute the four officers: the duty officer, the supervisor, the station guard, and the emergency dispatcher. The dispatcher is noted for having told Griva during her final call that "a patrol car is not a taxi." The court determined that the accused intentionally failed to fulfill their legal obligations to prevent the crime, thereby leaving the victim helpless while she was under their protection.

The victim's family, represented by lawyers Eleni Mazaraki and Chrysovalantis Glynos, characterized the indictment as a significant step toward justice and accountability. While respecting the presumption of innocence, the family has pledged to continue their pursuit of a full investigation into the institutional failures that led to the tragedy.
