Human remains discovered near Alepotrypa sports field in Athens
On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, human remains were discovered in a field adjacent to the Alepotrypa sports facility in Ano Kypseli, Athens. The discovery occurred after a child accidentally found the remains and alerted the Hellenic Police. Officers from the Homicide Department arrived at the scene to secure the area and initiate an investigation.
The remains, which included a skull, were found inside a relatively new blue bag. Initial assessments by authorities suggest that the bag may have been placed in the field recently. Forensic experts have recovered the remains and transported them to the Hellenic Police crime laboratories, where an anthropologist will conduct further analysis to identify the individual and determine the circumstances surrounding the death. Reports indicate that the skull does not show signs of blunt force trauma.
The surrounding area remains cordoned off while police continue their search for additional evidence. Law enforcement officials have announced that they will cross-reference the findings with records of missing persons to determine if the remains belong to a previously reported disappearance. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
