Cyprus vehicle registrations report significant growth in 2026

During the first eight months of 2026, Cyprus experienced an 11.2% increase in total vehicle registrations, reaching 38,564 units compared to 34,668 in the same period of 2025. Registrations for saloon passenger cars rose by 10.9% to 29,902, with 31.2% of these being new vehicles and 68.8% being used. Conversely, rental car registrations declined by 14.2%, falling from 4,044 to 3,468.

A significant shift in market preference is evident, as hybrid saloon cars captured 52.4% of the market share, up from 43.6% in 2025. In contrast, gasoline-powered saloon cars saw their share drop from 43.2% to 35.3%. Minor decreases were also noted in diesel vehicles, which fell to 8.0%, and electric vehicles, which decreased to 4.3%. Additionally, bus registrations saw a rise, reaching 142 units during this timeframe.

The Statistical Service of Cyprus reported these figures, which highlight a clear consumer trend toward more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly transportation options.
