Illegal bird trapping operation uncovered in Larnaca district
On September 8, 2026, members of the Anti-Poaching Unit of the MMAD conducted an operation in the Larnaca district, resulting in the discovery of illegal hunting activities. During the inspection of a prohibited hunting zone, authorities found an electronic bird-call device and five nets specifically designed for trapping wild birds. Seventeen live birds were discovered caught in the nets and were subsequently released back into the wild.
Following the discovery, police identified a 36-year-old man as the individual managing the site. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the illegal activities and faces potential charges. The Kofinou Regional Police Station is currently conducting further investigations into the incident, while legal proceedings against the man are expected to follow in the coming days.
