Cyprus national youth football teams prepare for upcoming international and domestic seasons

The Cyprus National U-16 team is preparing for two friendly matches against Moldova, scheduled for September 15 and 17, 2026. Coach Michalis Markou has selected a squad of 20 players from various local clubs, including AEL Limassol, APOEL Nicosia, and Omonia Nicosia. The mission is set to depart for Moldova on September 14, with training sessions scheduled ahead of the matches.

In related youth football news, the draw for the Cyprus U-16 Championship for the 2026-2027 season will take place online on September 10, 2026. Ten clubs, including FC Livadia and Olympiakos Soccer World Cyprus, are set to compete in the tournament, which will feature a three-round structure across 27 matchdays, beginning on October 3-4, 2026.

Meanwhile, the Cyprus National U-17 team recently played a goalless friendly match against Lithuania at the LSC Druskininkai stadium. This marked the debut of new coach Nikos Nikolaou. The U-17 team is utilizing these games as preparation for official qualifiers against Romania and the Faroe Islands in October, with a second friendly match against Lithuania scheduled for this coming Thursday.
