Cyprus national youth football teams prepare for upcoming season
The Cyprus U-17 national football team, led by new coach Nikos Nikolaou, concluded a two-match friendly series against Lithuania in Druskininkai. After a 0-0 draw on September 8, the Cypriot side secured a 2-1 victory on September 10, with goals from Anastasis Glavkou and Constantinos Christofi. These matches serve as preparation for official qualifiers in October against Romania and the Faroe Islands.
Meanwhile, the Cyprus U-16 national team is scheduled for two friendly matches against Moldova on September 15 and 17. Coach Michalis Markou has finalized the squad, consisting of players from various local clubs including AEL, APOEL, and Omonia, with the team departing for Moldova on September 14.
Domestically, the Cyprus Football Association has conducted the draws for the 2026-2027 U-16 and U-17 championships. The U-16 tournament will feature 10 teams playing three rounds, while the U-17 league will include nine teams, also playing a three-round format. Both championships are set to kick off on the weekend of October 3-4, 2026.
