Tasos Bakasetas leaves Panathinaikos for APOEL

Greek national team captain Tasos Bakasetas has officially announced his departure from Panathinaikos after two and a half years with the club. The 33-year-old midfielder, who joined the Athenian team in January 2024, confirmed through social media that he is continuing his career with the Cypriot side APOEL.

During his tenure with the greens, Bakasetas recorded 100 appearances across all competitions, contributing 20 goals and 10 assists. Reflecting on his time at the club, the player expressed regret that he could not help the team return to the top, but emphasized that he leaves with a clear conscience. He extended his gratitude to club president Giannis Alafouzos, technical staff, teammates, and the support staff who assisted him throughout his stay, particularly during injury recovery periods.

His departure marks the end of a significant chapter that began with high expectations following his return from Turkey. Although the player served as a key leader for various coaching staffs, including Fatih Terim, the team ultimately failed to reach its primary goal of winning major titles, leading to his exit and subsequent transfer to the Nicosia-based club.
