Cyprus police conduct nationwide anti-crime and traffic enforcement operations

Cypriot police carried out a series of intensive, coordinated operations across the island between September 8 and September 9, 2026, aimed at preventing serious criminal activity and enhancing public order. During the initial nationwide sweep, authorities stopped 557 vehicles, checked 704 individuals, and conducted 37 inspections of commercial premises. These actions resulted in 14 arrests for offenses including robbery, drug possession, illegal residency, and outstanding fines, alongside 338 traffic citations and the impoundment of seven vehicles.

In a separate specialized operation on September 9, Paphos traffic police focused on the Pegeia and Polis Chrysochous regions between 16:00 and 22:00. This campaign led to 84 traffic citations, the impoundment of one vehicle, and three arrests, including one driver found to have 79mg of alcohol in their system, significantly exceeding the legal limit of 22mg. Two other individuals were detained for outstanding warrants. Law enforcement officials stated these operations are part of ongoing efforts to bolster road safety and curb delinquency throughout the Republic of Cyprus.
