Cyprus Police conduct nationwide security operations

Between September 8 and September 10, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted a series of coordinated operations across urban areas to enhance public safety and prevent criminal activity. These efforts involved increased patrols, checks on vehicles and commercial premises, and targeted traffic law enforcement. Reports indicate that police arrested 14 individuals for offenses including burglary, theft, illegal possession of firearms, unauthorized private security work, and illegal residency, while others were detained for outstanding fines.

In a specific traffic operation conducted in Paphos between 16:00 and 22:00 on September 9, officers carried out 84 reports and impounded a vehicle. During this action, a driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, registering 79 mg instead of the legal limit of 22 mg. Additionally, two people were arrested for outstanding court warrants. Nationwide traffic enforcement during this broader period resulted in hundreds of citations for speeding and other violations, alongside the temporary impoundment of several vehicles. The operations were aimed at curbing delinquency and improving overall road safety across the country.
