Police conduct nationwide security operations and Paphos-specific traffic and guard enforcement

Cypriot police conducted a series of coordinated operations on September 9 and 10, 2026, aimed at maintaining public order, road safety, and combating illegal employment. On Wednesday, a focused traffic campaign in the Peyia and Polis Chrysochous areas resulted in 84 reports and the arrest of a motorist found driving with an alcohol level of 79mg, nearly four times the legal limit of 22mg. Two others were arrested for outstanding fines, and one vehicle was impounded.

On the night of September 10, a nationwide operation led to 14 arrests for various offenses, including burglary, theft, possession of firearms, and illegal stay in the Republic of Cyprus. Police checked 449 drivers and 125 passengers, issuing 188 traffic fines, including 54 for speeding, while impounding eight vehicles. Additionally, in Paphos, authorities inspected 24 private security firms, resulting in the reporting of six individuals and their employers for working without mandatory licenses.

Separate to these operations, police in Paphos arrested three individuals aged 21, 26, and 44, in connection with ongoing investigations into vehicle and property thefts. All stolen items have been recovered, and the suspects are expected to appear before the District Court.
