Musician honors Popi Christoforou, mother of the Mari blast victims

Musician Andreas Savva has publicly shared a tribute to the late Popi Christoforou, the mother of twins Miltos and Christos Christoforou, who were among the 13 victims of the 2011 Mari naval base explosion. Savva, who served in the Navy alongside the twins, revealed that Christoforou played a crucial role in his education and development following the tragedy.

After losing her sons, Christoforou used her own personal funds and compensation money received from the state to establish the 'Miltos and Christos Christoforou' Foundation. The foundation was created to support the education of young people, a mission inspired by her inability to see her own children finish their studies. Savva shared that 14 years ago, following the first memorial concert for the Mari victims, Christoforou approached him and offered to fund a one-year scholarship for his Computer Science studies at a private university.

This act of philanthropy highlights the lasting impact of the Christoforou family's legacy on survivors and friends of the deceased. The public disclosure of this personal story serves as a testament to the character of the late mother, who sought to transform her grief into opportunities for others in the years following the disaster.
