Paphos municipality initiates road improvements in residential areas

The Municipality of Paphos, led by acting mayor Angelos Onisiforou, has launched an initiative to improve road infrastructure beyond the city’s major arterial roads. On September 9, 2026, local authorities announced that maintenance work, including asphalt paving and premixing, is being expanded to smaller, secondary streets to address long-standing issues such as dust, mud, and poor road conditions.

A primary focus of the current project is the Anavargos community, specifically the area surrounding the local cemetery. Officials noted that these improvements are essential for resolving chronic traffic congestion and ensuring the safety of both residents and visitors. The municipality aims to modernize these neglected areas, which have lacked adequate infrastructure for years, to align with contemporary urban standards.

Acting Mayor Angelos Onisiforou emphasized that the municipality is actively seeking feedback from citizens to identify other locations in need of urgent repairs. The administration has committed to a continuous program of maintenance to improve daily mobility across the city, encouraging residents to report infrastructure problems directly to municipal services to facilitate timely interventions.
