Prosecutor demands conviction of two fishermen for the murder of Sifis Valirakis

The prosecutor at the Mixed Jury Court (MOD) has officially requested that two brothers, who are professional fishermen, be found guilty of the intentional homicide of Greek politician Sifis Valirakis. The incident took place on Sunday, January 24, 2021, in the sea area between Pezonisi and Agia Triada, near Eretria. According to the prosecution, the victim was spearfishing when he encountered the defendants, who threatened to report him to the Coast Guard for allegedly violating COVID-19 restrictions.

The prosecutor argued that the argument over this minor issue escalated into a criminal act. Based on evidence and testimonies gathered since the day Valirakis’s wife reported him missing, the prosecutor detailed the movements of the suspects' boat and the nature of the confrontation. The defense maintains that the accused are innocent and denies all charges against them. The trial continues as the court moves toward the final verdict following the prosecutor's closing arguments.
