Cyprus cabinet meeting postponed to September 10
The Cypriot Presidency announced that the Cabinet meeting originally scheduled for September 9 at 4:00 p.m. at the Presidential Palace has been postponed. The meeting will now take place on September 10 at 8:30 a.m.
This delay postpones three highly anticipated appointments to key public positions: the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), the Pancyprian Refugee Committee, and the Cyprus Youth Board. A central issue expected to be addressed is the leadership of the CySEC, as the term of the current chairman, Dr. George Theocharidis, ended on Monday. According to reports, it is considered unlikely that his mandate will be renewed, though no successor has been officially named yet. Dr. Theocharidis, who succeeded Demetra Kalogirou in September 2021 after serving as vice-chairman since July 2020, oversaw the imposition of administrative fines and the suspension of licenses for non-compliant entities during his tenure.
