Series of wildfires break out across Cyprus

Multiple wildfires were reported across Cyprus on September 8 and 9, 2026. A fire erupted on Tuesday near Evrychou and Koutrafas in the Nicosia district, burning two hectares of vegetation and a small storage shed before being brought under control by early Wednesday. While fires in Goudi and Evrychou were successfully contained without endangering nearby factories or homes, the fire between Panagia and Vretsia remains a focus of active suppression efforts. Authorities have initiated investigations into the causes of the Nicosia fire, while investigations for the Paphos incidents are expected to follow once containment is finalized.
