Youth Parliament representatives present educational proposals to committee

On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, representatives from the Youth Parliament presented a report regarding school violence and delinquency to the Parliamentary Committee on Education. The session focused on seven specific proposals aimed at improving the school environment, including the reintegration of civic education, the implementation of reflection actions, intercultural inclusion programs, and the creation of a digital communication app designed to prevent school violence.

The initiative follows consultations held with middle and high school students at the University of Cyprus, where the necessity of restoring civic education was highlighted. The representatives requested an update on the progress of their proposal, which is currently being reviewed by the parliamentary committee. Chrysanthus Savvides, the President of the Committee and a DIKO Member of Parliament, noted that the youth are actively engaging with pressing issues, such as student delinquency and the current teacher appointment system.

Officials expressed support for the students, emphasizing the importance of youth involvement in shaping educational policies. The parliamentary committee will continue to evaluate the proposals as part of their ongoing efforts to address social challenges within the nation's school system.
