Four injured after bus crashes into a station in Thessaloniki

On the afternoon of September 9, 2026, an urban bus accident occurred in the Neapoli district of Thessaloniki, Greece, specifically at the 'Kan-Kan' bus stop on Andreas Papandreou Street. The incident was triggered when an urban bus struck another bus from behind. To avoid the collision, the driver of the rear vehicle swerved and plowed into a bus stop where several people were waiting.

Four women were injured in the incident. A 21-year-old woman sustained the most serious injuries, including a leg fracture, and underwent a 3.5-hour surgical operation at the Papageorgiou Hospital. As of the latest reports, she is under medical observation in the orthopedic ward. A 62-year-old woman is also being treated in the surgical ward, while two other victims, aged 17 and 50, were discharged after receiving care. All four victims were initially transported to Papageorgiou Hospital by EKAB emergency services.

Local residents and officials have described the area as a dangerous thoroughfare, citing a lack of proper pedestrian infrastructure despite the road's heavy traffic leading to the Thessaloniki ring road. Authorities have launched an investigation into the exact circumstances of the collision. The incident has renewed public demands for improved road safety measures in the vicinity.
