Agridia Community Council opposes unauthorized stargazing event

The Agridia Community Council has officially opposed a stargazing event scheduled for Saturday, September 26, at the Prophet Elias chapel. The council stated that they have not granted any permit or approval for the event, which is set to take place at 19:30 within the village's administrative boundaries. According to the council, the organization of public events requires prior authorization under the 1999 Communities Law.

The council highlighted that the chosen location is approximately 200 meters from the Troodos Observatory, which already provides facilities for viewing the night sky, the Moon, and Saturn. Officials described the choice of venue as provocative, questioning whether the event might negatively impact the operations, visitors, or reputation of the observatory. The local authorities emphasized that the proximity to the established astronomical facility warrants more respect in the planning of such activities.

As of now, the council has declared the event unauthorized and is raising concerns about the potential consequences for the nearby observatory.
