Funeral held for Popi Christoforou in Limassol

The funeral of Popi Christoforou took place on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Holy Trinity Church in Limassol. Christoforou, who passed away on September 6 after a battle with cancer, was a prominent figure known as the mother of twins Miltos and Christos Christoforou, both of whom were killed in the 2011 explosion at the Evangelos Florakis naval base in Mari.

Due to the expected attendance of state officials and the public, police and the Limassol municipal traffic department implemented special traffic measures. Attendees were encouraged to use municipal parking lots, such as the Salaminos Street multi-storey facility or the Epichosi area, and were directed to approach the church via Zenonos Street using only the eastern entrance. Following the service at the church, the burial was scheduled to take place at the Agios Nikolaos cemetery.

The family requested that attendees wear white and blue and asked that donations be made to the Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society, the Agia Marina Amirous shelter, or the Limassol Diocese's soup kitchens instead of flowers. They also requested that media refrain from close-up footage of the service and eulogies. Dignitaries, including former President Nicos Anastasiades and House President Annita Demetriou, attended the event alongside a Navy honor guard.
