Popular Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the age of 54. The artist suffered a cardiac arrest while at a private clinic in the Kolonaki district of Athens, where he had gone for a scheduled regenerative medical procedure. Despite receiving immediate CPR from a paramedic who arrived on a motorcycle and subsequent transport to the Elpis Hospital, medical staff were unable to revive him and officially pronounced his death at 17:40.

Born in Nikaia in 1972, Mazonakis began his successful music career in 1992 and remained a prominent figure in the Greek entertainment scene for over three decades. His passing comes shortly before a planned anniversary concert scheduled for September 20 at Technopolis in Athens. In recent months, the singer had been candid about personal challenges, including his involuntary hospitalization at the Dromokaiteio psychiatric facility in August 2025.
