President Christodoulides outlines economic strategy and national priorities
On September 9, 2026, President Nikos Christodoulides addressed the EY Cyprus Future Realized Forum in Nicosia, highlighting the government’s ambition to transform Cyprus into a regional hub for technology, investment, and trade. He reported that foreign direct investment (FDI) value in Cyprus increased by approximately 10% in 2025 compared to the previous year. The President attributed this growth to the island's stability, institutional strength, and its transition toward high-value sectors such as fintech, innovation, and information and communication technologies (ICT).
Separately, while attending an event held by the historical 'Enosis Neon Trust' society, President Christodoulides emphasized that the resolution of the Cyprus problem remains his administration's primary objective. He argued that strengthening the state’s internal economic and geopolitical power is essential for successful negotiations. The President further noted that he is leveraging Cyprus’s stable diplomatic relations with neighboring countries to promote regional security and cooperation. Regarding the next steps in the Cyprus problem, the President stated that his government awaits updates following a planned communication between UN representative Maria Holguin and the UN Secretary-General, as international momentum for the issue has recently shown renewed activity.
