Sofia Christodoulou Makri takes office as EDEK leader and begins high-level meetings

Following the recent election of Sofia Christodoulou Makri as the new president of EDEK, the party is undergoing a transition period aimed at stabilizing its internal processes. In her new capacity, Christodoulou Makri has initiated a cycle of high-level political contacts. On September 11, 2026, she held an official meeting at the Presidential Palace with President Nikos Christodoulides, who emphasized EDEK's historical importance and expressed confidence in the party's potential to return to Parliament following its loss of seats in the May elections. They discussed social policy, housing, and government cooperation. Later that day, she met with House President Annita Dimitriou to discuss the party's future role, with both sides affirming the need for EDEK's continued contribution to the democratic process despite its current lack of legislative presence.
