Cyprus football players union reports labor law violations

The Pancyprian Footballers Association (PASP) has reported widespread labor law violations among second and third-division football clubs in Cyprus. PASP President Spyros Neofytidis stated that many clubs fail to implement the national minimum wage of €1,088, often registering contracts at rates as low as €250 or €290 per month, while also failing to contribute to Social Insurance funds.

A specific case involves former Ermis Aradippou player Michalis Koukou, who alleged that the club withheld copies of his employment contracts and failed to pay mandatory Social Insurance and GeSY contributions. According to Koukou, the club pressured him to terminate his automatically renewed contract, causing him to lose bonuses and other entitlements. PASP has formally requested that the Cyprus Football Association (KOP) investigate these practices.

Ermis Aradippou has issued a statement rejecting these allegations as unfounded and expressing dissatisfaction with the actions of the union. PASP maintains that these issues are systemic and has signaled its intention to publish further evidence regarding financial misconduct within second-division clubs, accusing the sport's governing bodies of failing to enforce basic labor standards.
