Omonia completes the signing of David Akintola from Hull City
Omonia Nicosia has officially confirmed the signing of 30-year-old Nigerian winger David Akintola from the English club Hull City. The player, who returns to the Cypriot team after six years, signed a two-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2028 and has chosen to wear the number 8 jersey. The transfer was finalized on September 9, 2026, just before the close of the summer transfer window, following a period of negotiations.
Akintola previously played for Omonia during the 2019-2020 season on loan from Midtjylland, contributing to the team's success before the season was cut short. Since then, he has gained extensive experience in Turkey with clubs including Hatayspor, Adana Demirspor, and Rizespor, before joining Hull City last year, where he helped the team secure promotion to the Premier League. He remains ineligible for Omonia's current European campaign, as the squad lists for the League Phase have already been submitted, but he is cleared to participate in domestic competitions including the championship and the cup.
Following the transition, Akintola expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the club, citing the efforts of manager Henning Berg and the administration as key factors in his decision.
