Omonia FC set to finalize the return of David Akintola
Omonia Nicosia is on the verge of officially announcing the return of 30-year-old Nigerian winger David Akintola. The player, who was previously on loan at the club during the 2019-20 season, arrived in Cyprus on September 9, 2026, to undergo medical examinations and finalize the transfer agreement. Akintola joins from the English Championship side Hull City, where he made 20 appearances and contributed to the team's promotion to the Premier League.
Following his initial stint at Omonia, where he played seven matches, Akintola established himself in Turkey, playing for Hatayspor, Adana Demirspor, and Rizespor before his move to England. The transfer is a personal choice by head coach Henning Berg, who previously collaborated with the player in Nicosia. Omonia has already released a teaser video on social media confirming his imminent arrival.
Regarding his immediate future, Akintola will be available for domestic competitions, including the league and the Cup. However, he will not participate in the European League Phase as the squad lists have already been finalized. He remains physically fit, having participated in Hull City's preparations and a cup match against Stoke City on August 25, 2026.
