Deep-range drone attacks hit Russian energy infrastructure

On September 9, 2026, Ukrainian drone strikes targeted critical Russian energy infrastructure across multiple regions, marking some of the deepest attacks on Russian territory since the conflict began. Significant strikes occurred in the Yamal-Nenets region, specifically near Novy Urengoy and the Purovsky district, over 3,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Separately, a fire erupted at a fuel storage terminal in the Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk during a prolonged drone assault. Mayor Andrei Kravchenko confirmed that debris impacted several commercial facilities and residential areas. Industry sources indicate that the fire affected a tank containing approximately 37,000 cubic meters of petroleum products. These recurring attacks have caused loading delays and exacerbated existing tanker shortages at the port. Meanwhile, in northern Ukraine, a Russian drone strike on a shopping center in Sumy resulted in three deaths and two injuries, causing severe structural damage to the building.
