Education official addresses infrastructure concerns at Vergina school
On September 9, 2026, Giorgos Koutsidis, the Deputy Director of Secondary General Education, visited the Vergina Gymnasium and Lyceum in Larnaca to assess student grievances regarding school infrastructure. Accompanied by members of the Larnaca Technical Services and the local School Board, Koutsidis inspected the facility and met with student representatives.
The students highlighted critical issues concerning housing arrangements, the condition of restrooms, and general building maintenance. Koutsidis acknowledged these concerns as legitimate and justified, promising to escalate them formally to the Ministry of Education. He emphasized that the students are right to demand improvements to their learning environment.
Following the inspection, Koutsidis requested that the students prioritize their needs to facilitate a more efficient resolution process. The school board and technical authorities are expected to collaborate on reviewing these prioritized requirements in the coming days to determine the scope of necessary renovations and structural improvements.
