Imanol Alguacil appointed as new Olympiacos head coach

Olympiacos has officially parted ways with coach Jose Luis Mendilibar, ending a highly successful tenure that spanned over 2.5 years. During his time at the club, Mendilibar led the team to its historic 2024 UEFA Conference League victory, as well as a domestic treble during the club's centenary season, which included the league title, the Greek Cup, and the Super Cup.

Following the departure, Olympiacos acted quickly to appoint 55-year-old Basque manager Imanol Alguacil as his successor. The decision followed meetings in Madrid between the club's leadership and Alguacil, who previously managed Real Sociedad from 2018 to 2025 and briefly had a stint at Al-Shabab. Alguacil arrived in Athens overnight and is scheduled to conduct his first training session with the Olympiacos squad on Thursday, September 10, 2026, as he begins his new role at the Piraeus club.
