Olympiacos parts ways with Jose Luis Mendilibar and appoints Imanol Alguacil as head coach

Olympiacos officially announced the departure of head coach Jose Luis Mendilibar on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The club expressed gratitude for his historic tenure, which included winning the UEFA Conference League and a domestic treble during the club's centenary year.

Following the departure, the Greek club appointed 55-year-old Basque coach Imanol Alguacil as his successor. Alguacil is a seasoned manager best known for his long tenure at Real Sociedad from 2018 to 2025, where he notably won the Copa del Rey in 2020. Most recently, he managed Al Shabab until February 2026. Alguacil is expected to arrive in Greece immediately to take charge of the team, with his first training session scheduled for Thursday, September 10, 2026.
