85-year-old man in critical condition after being struck by a reversing car in Nicosia
An 85-year-old man remains in critical condition at Nicosia General Hospital following a road traffic accident that occurred on the afternoon of September 9, 2026. The incident took place around 3:45 p.m. at Archbishop Makarios Square, located near the Anthoupolis refugee settlement.
According to police reports, a 38-year-old driver was operating his vehicle in reverse when he struck the elderly pedestrian who was walking behind the car. Following the collision, the victim was transported to the hospital, where medical staff diagnosed him with a cerebral hemorrhage. His health status is currently considered life-threatening.
The 38-year-old driver underwent mandatory testing following the accident. While his alcohol breathalyzer test returned a negative result, a preliminary drug test provided a positive indication.
