Elderly man in critical condition after Nicosia vehicle collision
An 85-year-old man remains in critical condition at Nicosia General Hospital following a road accident that occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The incident took place at approximately 3:45 p.m. at Archbishop Makarios Square, located near the Anthoupoli refugee settlement in Nicosia.
According to police reports, the collision occurred when a car driven by a 38-year-old man was reversing and struck the victim, who was walking behind the vehicle. Upon arrival at the hospital, medical staff diagnosed the elderly man with a brain haemorrhage. Authorities conducted tests on the driver, which revealed a negative result for alcohol but a positive preliminary indication for drugs. The Lakatamia Police Station is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine potential criminal liability.
