Series of serious traffic accidents reported across Cyprus
Several significant traffic accidents occurred in Cyprus between September 9 and September 11, 2026, leading to multiple hospitalizations. On the evening of September 9, a driver was trapped after their vehicle struck a guardrail on the Kofinou-Agios Theodoros road in Larnaca. Fire Service and EMAK rescue teams successfully extricated the individual, who was then transported to the hospital.
On September 10, another incident involved a vehicle carrying three tourists on the Kathikas-Drouseia road in Paphos, which collided with a utility pole. A 90-year-old passenger was injured and taken to the hospital. Additionally, on September 11, a side-impact collision occurred on the main road between Paphos and the Empa-Tala communities. A woman was hospitalized with serious injuries after a rental car reportedly failed to yield, causing a collision with another vehicle. Local authorities have expressed recurring concerns regarding the safety of the Empa road due to its high frequency of accidents.
