UNFICYP commander withdrawn from mission following misconduct allegations

Lieutenant General Mohammad Asadullah Minhazul Alam, the commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), has reportedly been withdrawn from his post following formal complaints regarding his conduct. Minhazul Alam returned to Bangladesh on a commercial flight on the night of September 4. The General had been appointed to the role by UN Secretary-General António Guterres on April 9, initially holding the rank of Major General before his promotion to Lieutenant General.
