Cyprus cabinet announces new appointments for state regulatory bodies and national institutions

On September 10, 2026, the Council of Ministers of Cyprus, chaired by President Nikos Christodoulides, approved a series of appointments to various public and regulatory boards. The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) received new leadership with Giorgos Karatzias appointed as Chairman, Loukas Lagoudis as Vice Chairman, and Andrea Mounti Savvidou as a member, all for five-year terms. Additionally, Panikkos Vakkou was named an Executive Consultant to the Central Bank of Cyprus.

Changes were also implemented in other sectors: Pampos Christodoulou was appointed Chairman of the Youth Board of Cyprus, while Lefteris Antoniou took over the Cyprus Refugee Association and Marilena Evangelou became Chair of the School for the Deaf. Notably, the government finalized the inaugural board of the National Cancer Institute, chaired by oncologist Dr. Pavlos Dragos. This body includes representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Finance, the Pancyprian Medical Association, the Cyprus Alliance of Rare Disorders, the Rectors' Conference, and the National Bioethics Committee.

These appointments serve to restructure the administration of key state institutions. The newly formed board of the National Cancer Institute is tasked with managing the operations and strategic development of this new healthcare entity.
