Cyprus cabinet approves leadership appointments for multiple public institutions

On September 10, 2026, the Council of Ministers of Cyprus, chaired by President Nikos Christodoulides, approved a series of leadership appointments across several major public institutions. Key appointments include Giorgos Karatzias as the Chairman of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission for a five-year term, alongside Loukas Lagoudis as Vice-Chairman and Andrea Mounti Savvidi as a member. Additionally, Panikkos Vakkou was appointed as an Executive Consultant to the Central Bank of Cyprus, and new leadership was named for the Cyprus Youth Organization (ONEK), with Pampos Christodoulou taking the role of President and Thanos Christodoulou as Vice-President.

The Cabinet also officially inaugurated the first Board of Directors for the newly established National Cancer Institute, chaired by oncologist Dr. Pavlos Dragos. The board includes representatives from the Ministries of Health and Finance, the Pancyprian Medical Association, and patient advocacy groups. This appointment follows months of administrative instability at the Youth Organization, which had previously lost its quorum due to resignations, halting essential projects. While Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides hailed the institute's creation as a major step in national cancer strategy, the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre expressed disappointment regarding the lack of representation for its institution on the newly formed board, despite its longstanding expertise in the field.
