Cyprus moves forward with new unified operations center at Vasiliko energy hub

On September 10, 2026, the Cypriot government announced that the project to establish a Unified Operations Center at the Vasiliko Energy Center has entered the implementation phase. This initiative follows a second consultative meeting involving the Ministers of Justice and Energy, building upon an initial meeting held in July by Minister of Justice and Public Order Costas Fytiris. The primary objective of the center is to bolster security and facilitate seamless coordination among all relevant agencies operating within this critical national infrastructure.

The project has reached a milestone with the selection of a physical site for the facility, and authorities are currently proceeding with the necessary logistics for its configuration, operation, and staffing. The center is designed to provide a unified operational view, allowing for immediate and synchronized responses to any security incidents. To manage these efforts, a Coordinating Committee—comprising one representative from each involved agency—will be formed to oversee an official Action Plan. The Cyprus Police have been tasked with leading this committee, which will hold regular meetings to monitor the progress of works and the execution of key decisions.
