Arrests made for arson cases in Famagusta province
Police in the Famagusta province have reported two separate arson investigations. In the first case, two young men aged 19 and 20 were arrested in connection with the arson of a barbershop in Deryneia, which occurred at 4:00 AM on August 19, 2026. Authorities identified the suspects through witness testimony and surveillance footage. The Famagusta District Court has ordered them to be detained for six days as investigations continue.
In a separate incident on September 8, 2026, a 63-year-old man was arrested following a fire that destroyed a storage shed near a residence in Agia Napa. The blaze began shortly after 6:00 AM near a generator under a canopy before spreading to the structure. Fire services, police, and electro-mechanical officials determined the fire was set maliciously. Following evidence collected at the scene, the 63-year-old was detained on September 10 to assist with ongoing police inquiries.
