Recent arrests in Cyprus regarding arson cases across multiple districts
Authorities in Cyprus have made several arrests across the island in connection with recent arson cases. In the Famagusta district, two individuals aged 19 and 20 were arrested for the arson of a barbershop in Deryneia, which occurred on August 19, 2026. The Famagusta District Court has ordered their detention for six days. Additionally, a 63-year-old man was arrested in Ayia Napa regarding an arson incident on September 8, 2026, which destroyed a storage shed and tools belonging to a 72-year-old resident.
Separately, in Nicosia, a 25-year-old woman was arrested on September 12, 2026, in connection with the arson of a vehicle that occurred on May 26, 2026. A 24-year-old man had already been arrested in June for the same incident; he remains in custody pending trial, with the next court hearing set for October 16, 2026. The 25-year-old suspect has been remanded in custody for four days to facilitate further investigation. Investigations by the Criminal Investigation Departments (CID) in the respective districts remain ongoing to fully clarify the circumstances of these malicious acts.
