Recent wave of arson incidents across Cyprus

Cypriot authorities are investigating a series of arson attacks reported across multiple districts in August and September 2026. In the Famagusta region, two foreign nationals, aged 19 and 20, were arrested and remanded for six days following an August 19 barbershop fire in Deryneia. Separately, a 63-year-old man was arrested in connection with a September 8 incident in Ayia Napa where an outbuilding belonging to a 72-year-old was destroyed. In Nicosia, a 25-year-old woman was remanded for four days in relation to a May 26 vehicle fire; a 24-year-old man previously arrested for this case is currently awaiting trial on October 16.

Additional investigations are underway in Limassol following two recent incidents: a vehicle owned by a 25-year-old was destroyed by fire in Kolossi, and a separate attempt occurred on Grammos Street involving a vehicle owned by a 58-year-old. Police continue to gather evidence and conduct forensic examinations across these crime scenes to determine motives and potential connections between suspects. Most suspects remain in custody while police departments, including Famagusta, Nicosia, and Limassol CID, coordinate the ongoing legal proceedings.
