Cyprus records high ratio of Ukrainian temporary protection beneficiaries

According to data released by Eurostat on Thursday, Cyprus recorded the third-highest ratio of temporary protection beneficiaries from Ukraine in the European Union as of the end of July 2026. The country hosted 26.7 beneficiaries per 1,000 inhabitants, following behind the Czech Republic with 36.2 and Slovakia with 27.5. This figure stands significantly higher than the EU average of 9.8 per 1,000 residents.

Despite the high relative density, the absolute number of beneficiaries in Cyprus saw a slight decrease of 110 individuals, or 0.4%, compared to June 2026. Cyprus remains one of only three EU nations, alongside Poland and France, where a decline in the beneficiary population was reported. Across the entire European Union, the total number of beneficiaries reached 4.43 million by July 31, 2026, marking a monthly increase of 19,945 people. Germany continues to host the largest share of displaced Ukrainians, accounting for 29.1% of the total, followed by Poland at 21.5% and the Czech Republic at 8.9%. These statistics reflect the ongoing status of individuals fleeing the conflict in Ukraine and the demographic distribution across European member states as of mid-2026.
