Cypriot and Egyptian forces hold maritime security training at CYCLOPS center

Cypriot and Egyptian military and police forces concluded a joint maritime security training program held from August 31 to September 9 at the CYCLOPS (Cyprus Center for Land, Open-seas and Port Security) facility in Larnaca. The exercise focused on specialized VBSS/CBRN operations, involving Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure procedures specifically tailored to address chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats at sea.

The training program was led by instructors from the Cypriot Port and Marine Police, with participation from the Cyprus National Guard’s Underwater Demolition Unit and Commando Command. Additionally, officials from the Deputy Ministry of Shipping and personnel from the Ambulance Service contributed to the curriculum, while the Port and Marine Police provided vessel crews and equipment to facilitate realistic at-sea operational scenarios.

The exercise aimed to enhance regional cooperation in maritime law enforcement and hazardous material handling. By integrating personnel from various security sectors, the program sought to strengthen the procedures used for boarding vessels suspected of transporting dangerous materials.
