Yacht fire near Lefkada island

On Thursday, September 10, 2026, a fire broke out on a yacht flying an Italian flag in the sea area near the Northern Channel of Lefkada, Greece. The emergency services were alerted around 14:20, triggering an immediate rescue operation involving both maritime and land-based units.

All three foreign nationals aboard the vessel successfully evacuated to the shore on their own initiative and are reported to be in good health. No injuries have been sustained by the passengers. The Hellenic Coast Guard is leading the operation, supported by a local fishing boat, a specialized firefighting speedboat, and six firefighters with two vehicles positioned on the coastline to assist.
