Cypriot judokas to compete at the Hungary Grand Slam

Seven Cypriot athletes are set to compete at the Hungary Grand Slam in Budapest, held from September 11 to 13, 2026. The national team includes Petros Christodoulides, who will compete in the -66kg category on Friday, following his silver medal win at the 20th Mediterranean Games in Taranto. Other athletes representing Cyprus include Giorgos Balarjishvili and Sofia Asvesta on Friday, Kyprianos Andreou and Odysseas Georgakis on Saturday, and Aristos Michael and Zanet Michaelidou on Sunday.

Petros Christodoulides has shown significant progress in the international circuit this year. After finishing 2025 ranked 62nd globally, he has climbed to the 27th position with 1,450 points, gaining 35 spots since the start of 2026. His recent achievements include a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and a 5th-place finish at the Tbilisi Grand Slam. His participation in Budapest is part of his ongoing professional trajectory within the world rankings.
