Concerns over unauthorized plasmapheresis clinics in Cyprus

Health authorities in Cyprus are investigating reports of unauthorized plasmapheresis treatments following a serious incident where a patient required intensive care unit (ICU) hospitalization due to complications. The issue has gained public attention following the death of Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis, who reportedly underwent the procedure at a facility in Greece that lacked the necessary permits.

In Cyprus, cardiac surgeon Marinos Sotiriou, co-founder of the American Medical Center, stated that his medical team treated a patient who developed severe complications after receiving the procedure at an allegedly illegal center. Sotiriou claims that the Ministry of Health has been aware of this facility's operations for some time. Reports confirm that the Ministry has received formal complaints, conducted on-site inspections, and notified the police. Experts are now warning the public about the significant health risks associated with the increasing trend of using plasmapheresis for anti-aging and longevity purposes without proper medical oversight.
