Recent fire incidents in Oroklini and Engomi

Two separate fire incidents occurred in Cyprus on September 11 and September 12, 2026. On the night of September 11, a fire broke out in the kitchen of an apartment complex in Oroklini at approximately 22:42. The blaze was caused by overheated oil in a cooking vessel. The resident of the apartment sustained burns while attempting to extinguish the flames but refused medical transport to the hospital. Firefighters from the Oroklini station responded with two vehicles to secure the scene.

On the afternoon of September 12, a second, more severe fire broke out at a mud-brick house in Engomi. Nicosia fire stations dispatched three staffed fire engines to the location. The occupants managed to evacuate the building safely before the fire, which caused extensive damage to the roof, could pose a threat to their lives. The blaze was subsequently extinguished. Authorities have stated that investigations into the cause of the Engomi fire will commence once the site is declared structurally stable, while the Oroklini incident resulted in minor property damage to kitchen appliances and wall paint.
