Recent fire incidents in Oroklini, Engomi, and Orounta

Three separate fire incidents occurred in Cyprus between September 11 and 13, 2026. On the night of September 11, a kitchen fire in an Oroklini apartment, caused by overheated oil, left one resident with burns; the individual declined hospital transport. Subsequently, on September 12, a fire broke out in a mud-brick house in Engomi. Occupants safely evacuated the building before extensive damage occurred to the roof, requiring intervention from three fire engines from Nicosia.

Most recently, on September 13, a wildfire involving dry grass and wild vegetation ignited in the 'Kampos tou Mylou' area of Orounta. The blaze prompted a coordinated response from the Peristerona fire station, the Forestry Department, the Game and Fauna Service, and volunteer groups including Support-CY, BlueHeart, and ATLAS-DIAS. Aerial assets conducted preventative water drops, and by midday, officials confirmed the situation was manageable, with efforts transitioning to final containment and extinguishing hot spots.
