Series of wildfire incidents reported across Cyprus

Over the past few days, Cyprus has experienced several fire incidents across different districts. On September 12, a house fire occurred in Engomi, causing roof damage but no injuries. Subsequently, on September 13, a wildfire in Orounta involving dry grass and vegetation burned four hectares before being brought under control by the Fire Service, Forestry Department, and volunteer groups.

On September 14, multiple incidents were reported. A forest fire in the Prodromi area of Polis Chrysochous was quickly contained by the Forestry Department, protecting nearby residences. Simultaneously, a small fire in Mitsero was extinguished within minutes. Meanwhile, a more significant wildfire in Arsos, Limassol, triggered an emergency response involving five aerial assets, bulldozers, and personnel recalls due to strong winds. Authorities reported the Arsos fire as manageable, with some sources confirming that aerial support was ultimately not required due to rapid containment efforts.

Investigations into the causes of these fires are currently underway. The "Astrapi" operational plan was activated in several instances, reflecting a high state of mobilization among firefighting services to safeguard residential areas and critical forest zones.
