Funeral service held for writer and publisher Vassos Ftokopoulos
Vassos Ftokopoulos, a prominent writer, director, and publisher, was laid to rest on September 11, 2026, following his death on September 7 at the age of 76. The funeral service took place at the Holy Church of Agia Varvara in Kaimakli, with burial following at the new Aglantzia cemetery, near the University of Cyprus.
The ceremony was attended by numerous figures from the fields of culture, journalism, theater, and literature. Eulogies were delivered by Alekos Michailidis, Prodromos Prodromou, and Giorgos Karampelias, who honored his contribution to society. A poignant detail of the service was that his coffin was draped in the same flag that had previously covered the casket of Papastavros Papagathangelou.
Ftokopoulos was recognized as an independent and influential publisher known for his political views, particularly his promotion of the concept of 'Enosis.' Following his passing, his family requested that instead of flowers, mourners make contributions to the Pancyprian Association of Friends of Kidney Patients and the Philoptochos Brotherhood of Kaimakli.
