Cyprus halloumi exports reach 357 million euros in 2025
Halloumi, the traditional Cypriot cheese with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status, continues to strengthen its position as the country's leading export product. According to recent reports, the cheese is now exported to more than 40 countries worldwide, representing a significant component of the national economy.
Financial data indicates a consistent upward trend for the product. In 2024, halloumi exports were valued at 323.9 million euros, accounting for 13.4 percent of the country's total exports and placing it in third position. By 2025, that figure rose to 357 million euros. The product's status as a PDO item mandates that it must be produced exclusively in Cyprus, which protects its authenticity, quality, and traditional characteristics against imitation while providing local producers with a competitive advantage in global markets.
The industry is now focusing on maintaining this momentum while seeking to expand into new international territories. Authorities emphasize that beyond its financial contribution, halloumi serves as a symbol of Cypriot identity and historical heritage.
